Adoptions, Dependency and Grandparents' Rights

Florida Adoption and Dependency Lawyer

At Tamara K. Holden, P.A., Family Law Offices, we help a family grow through adoption. We also protect the rights of families who are in danger of losing their children.

Adoption

Adoption is a complicated process with checks and balances to protect the rights of all parties involved: the child, the biological parents and the adoptive parents. It is important to have a skilled attorney to help you navigate the system. Our law firm provides comprehensive services to individuals and couples who wish to adopt. We assist clients with family-member adoption, private adoption and stepparent adoption.

In most cases, adoption requires the written permission of the child's mother and father. After adoption, the adoptive parents assume all the rights and responsibilities of the biological parent. Attorney Tamara K. Holden has helped many families grow or legally become one through adoption. If you would like to adopt, contact us to discuss the process.

Dependency Hearings

We protect the rights of parents who have been accused of child abuse or child neglect. When such allegations arise, the Florida Department of Children and Families Services can file a petition for dependency. This starts a process called a Florida Chapter 39 dependency proceeding in which the state determines whether to terminate the parents' rights. If the parents are found to be unfit, the children become wards of the state and can be placed with grandparents or other close relatives or in foster care.

Grandparents' Rights

Due to financial or other pressures on parents, many grandparents become caretakers for their grandchildren. Grandparents may even take custody of grandchildren if the parents are unable to care for their children. In other cases, grandparents may lose contact with their grandchildren due to divorce or relocation of the parent. If you are a grandparent seeking to maintain a relationship with your grandchild after a divorce or termination of parental rights, or if you seek custody, visitation or adoption of your grandchild, contact Tamara K. Holden, P.A., Family Law Offices.

When your ability to keep your child is at risk, you should have your own attorney representing your interests. Don't give up your child without a fight. Contact Tamara K. Holden, P.A., Family Law Offices, in Largo or Tampa.
